Colombian Judge Finds Ex-President Uribe Committed Bribery
A Colombian judge said former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez committed bribery in a witness tampering probe, potentially becoming the first Colombian head of state to be convicted of a crime.
The case centers on allegations that the right-wing leader, who governed from 2002 to 2010, dispatched intermediaries to prisons to pressure former members of illegal armed groups into altering their testimony — retracting accusations against him and instead implicating left-wing Senator Iván Cepeda.
